A little while back a question about what we might want if we completely redesigned the desktop was posted to the Kent Linux User Group mailing list. This re-ignited my interest in something that has been brewing in the back of my mind since I first worked in an office environment. I'm actually reasonably happy with the way that computer desktops work. File systems, and in particular the way files are named is, however, something that I think we need to address.
These pages are the content of a presentation I gave to the user group in February 2009. They are copyright © Mike Evans 2009, but I do intend to release them under an open source type licence once I can work out which would be the most appropriate. The pages are pretty much as exported from Open Office Impress although I have manually altered the notes and added some styling.
